About The Yurt

The Yurt at Nicholsons by Ian Wallman

For many years, Nicholsons has wanted to offer our customers more than just great landscaping and garden design, so it is with great pleasure that we invite you to come and sample our café. Dining al fresco carries a certain charm and hence we have designed our café in a Yurt… a good compromise for the British climate.

Yurts have been a distinctive feature of life in Central Asia for at least three thousand years. In some of those cultures the word ‘Yurt’ simply means ‘Home’. Yurts were used by nomads to move their homes with the grazing – we like this relationship of man with land and following the freshest food.

Our Yurt was hand made in Devon, hewn from skilfully steam bent ash timbers, sanded by craftsmen and treated with rich oils for longevity. Our Yurt has a fleece lining for winter and tough cotton canvas to keep out the British weather all year round.

We look forward to cooking for you.

Opening Hours – 8.30am until 4.30pm Monday to Saturday.
